David
Ellenstein
Born into a theatrical family, David
has spent his lifetime in the theatre as a Director, Actor and
Teacher and now assumes the mantle as the Acting Artistic Director
of the LA Rep from his father, founder Robert Ellenstein. He has
served as the associate director of The Los Angeles Repertory
Company, cofounder of the Southern
California Jewish Repertory Theatre, and as artistic
consultant and director for the Streisand Festival of New Jewish
Plays in La Jolla.
Directing credits include LONG DAYS JOURNEY INTO NIGHT at the
Lyceum Theatre, HAMLET at the Kingsman Shakespeare Festival, ROMEO
AND JULIET at the Nevada Shakespeare Festival, THE CHOSEN at The
Arizona Jewish Theatre, A SHAYNA MAIDEL at the Gaslamp Quarter
Theatre, OLD WICKED SONGS and TALLEY'S FOLLEY at The Pirate Playhouse,
and CONVERSATIONS WITH MY FATHER at The Portland Repertory Theatre.
As an actor, David played HAMLET at the Los Angeles
Repertory Company and the LA Theatre Center, Richard III at the
California Shakespeare Festival, "Einstein" in PICASSO
AT THE LAPIN AGILE at the Laguna Playhouse to name a few. Regional
theatre acting and directing credits include Arizona Theatre Company,
Meadow Brook, Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival, and La Jolla Playhouse.
David has taught acting and Shakespeare for the LA
Repertory Company, the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum's Academy
of the Classics, California State University Northridge, Cal Arts
and privately.
Film and television credits include over three dozen
appearances.
